Hey, you’re outta ice

There are many titles for this entry. I have managed to build the community house. I secretly love it. I was babysitting my godson tonight and then went out with his parents for a beer and received the text messages that you see.

This was no exaggeration because when I arrived home an hour later there were boxes of pizza and my family sitting in my kitchen. I walked in to say hello and my sister said "hey you're out of ice"

This lead to at least another two hour discussion of all the things. I'm sure some people would be ranting about personal space, but if I've learned anything I know how fleeting time is, so I'm good with it.

I can't make memories like these up.

Down to the studs

I was hoping this could wait, but, now I'm just going for it. My sunroom roof was no match for this winter. After pulling the rotting skylights and redoing the roof, it was clear that for the first time in my nearly 13 years of owning this house, that I would be making a major renovation.

So, we're off. Dropping the ceiling, redoing the insulation and updating the walls…it's all being done.

Hats off to my friends who do this in other parts of the house. I hate having my life turned upside down

To be continued…

For prosperity

Mental notes for myself, which a bunch of you have heard tonight:

Pulling out the contents of your fridge and cleaning out the drawers and inside. Fucking bullshit. 0 stars and I'm sweating like a whore in church.

And note: I need to find someone with OCD and a passion for cleaning.

This is why in DC I had only booze and condiments in my fridge.

Sighhh one job on top of the other!

🔥 EVERY MAN Should Understand these 5 Things About “Independent” Women…

Amplifying this…I like the emphasis on "man" should know. As boys, just don't.

And if you don't…
She already knows you won't.

Her body decided that before you even finished your second sentence.

Before you offered to carry something. Before you reached for the check.
Before you said "let me handle it" and watched something behind her eyes flinch.

Here's what most men get wrong…

You see a woman who handles everything. Who doesn't ask for help. Who built her life with her own hands and doesn't seem to need yours.

And you call her "independent" like it's a personality trait.

Like she chose this.

I've been building companies for over 20 years.

I've coached men and women through the deepest entrepreneurial and emotional work of their lives.

And I'll tell you something that might rearrange everything you think you know about the strong woman in front of you…

She's not "too independent."
She's TERRIFIED of needing anyone.

And there's a canyon between those two things.

1️⃣ One… Her independence isn't strength. It's scar tissue.

Watch her.

She carries the groceries in one trip. Every time.

Even when her arms are shaking.
She books her own flights, fixes her own sink, moves her own furniture.

She built entire systems around never having to ask.

And you think that's power.
But look closer.

She flinches when you try to take something out of her hands.

Not because she doesn't want help.

Because the last time she let someone carry something for her… they dropped it.

And she had to pick it up anyway.
Plus clean up the mess of trusting them in the first place.

Her independence isn't a flag she's flying.

It's a wall she built with her bare hands because NOBODY showed up with the blueprint for safety.

2️⃣ Two… She learned to stop needing before she learned to drive.

This one goes deep.

Somewhere between 12 and 17… something happened.

Maybe it was a father who left.
Maybe it was a father who stayed but was never actually THERE.

Maybe it was watching her mother do everything alone and learning that this is "what women do".

They carry it.
They don't complain.
They figure it out.

She didn't wake up one morning and decide to be self-sufficient.

Her nervous system made the decision for her.

It said: needing people is dangerous. Depending on anyone is a setup for the kind of pain that rearranges you.

The only safe pair of hands in this world are your own.

She was a teenager when her body wrote that contract.

And she's been honoring it ever since.

3️⃣ Three… When you offer to help… her body goes to war with itself.

This is the part most men never see.

You say "let me take care of that" and something in her chest cracks open for half a second.

A tiny window.
A flash of what it would feel like to actually let go.

And then every memory she's ever stored slams that window shut.

The time she trusted and got blindsided.
The time she softened and got swallowed.
The time she let someone in and spent six months rebuilding what they burned down on their way out.

Her body wants to hand you the weight.
But… Her history won't let her.

So she smiles and says "I've got it."
And you believe her.

Because she's so damn convincing at not needing anything that even she forgot it was an act.

4️⃣ Four… She doesn't need you to save her. She needs you to STAY while she learns to stop saving herself.

TRUST ME… this is the one that separates the boys from the men.

She's not looking for a hero.
She's had enough pretend heroes.

Men who showed up big and loud and promising… then got bored when the performance ended and the real work started.

What she needs is something so simple it sounds almost stupid.

She needs you to keep showing up.

When she pushes you away. Show up.

When she says she's fine. Stay.

When she handles something she didn't have to handle alone. Don't take it personally.

Just be there next time.
And the time after that.
And the time after that.

She's not testing you.

She's watching to see if you pass the test her father failed.

And that test isn't dramatic. It isn't loud.

It's just… consistency.
Over and over.
Until her nervous system finally gets the memo that the rules changed.

5️⃣ Five… Underneath all that armor… there's a woman who aches to be held without holding everything together.

This is the grief she doesn't post about.

The part she doesn't tell her therapist.
The part she hides behind her calendar and her accomplishments and the empire she built with shaking hands.

She wants to fall apart in someone's arms and not have to be the one who puts herself back together.

She wants to cry without being fixed.
Struggle without being coached.
Need something without being disappointed.

She wants to walk through a door and know… in her body, not her mind… that someone else already handled the thing she was bracing to handle alone.

She's not "too independent."

She's a woman who got so good at being strong that everyone forgot to ask if she was okay.

And somewhere underneath all that armor is a girl who just wanted someone to say… "You don't have to carry that. I'm here. And I'm not leaving."

She's still in there.

Waiting for a man safe enough to put the weight down.

Now here's what you do with this…

You stop being impressed by her independence.

You start being CURIOUS about it.
You ask yourself what happened to a woman that made her this unwilling to need anybody.

And then you don't try to tear the wall down.

You just sit next to it.
Consistently.
Quietly.
Without an agenda.

You let her watch you stay.
That's it.

Not a grand gesture.
Not a speech.
Not a weekend workshop on vulnerability.

Just a man who keeps showing up until her hands start to open on their own.

And one night… maybe a Tuesday… nothing special about it…

She lets her head fall against your chest.

Not because you asked.
Not because she planned to.

Because something in her body finally exhaled.

Her fingers stop gripping.
Her jaw softens.

Her breath slows into something she hasn't felt since before she learned to carry everything alone.

And she doesn't say anything.
She doesn't have to.

Her body just whispers… he stayed. He actually stayed.

And for the first time in longer than she can remember… she lets someone else hold the weight.

Indeed, Chuck. Indeed.

After a lovely night out with my gals to support my old middle school, I'm ready to cap off this long work week.

Winter may be dragging on, but making plans for the next few months.

Getting ready for many good times and celebrations ahead.

Who Am I? Professionally

According to ChatGPT:

You're Gina Mangiaracina, COO of 6 Degrees PR — a life-sciences communications leader who lives at the intersection of biotech strategy, storytelling, and execution.

Professionally, you:

  • Lead integrated communications for biotech and life sciences clients (cell therapy, gene therapy, cardiometabolic, oncology, rare disease).

  • Shape high-stakes narratives around clinical readouts, FDA milestones, financings, partnerships, and major conferences.

  • Obsess (in the best way) over message discipline, metrics, and brand alignment.

  • Operate as both strategist and operator — managing teams, scopes of work, performance, and agency growth.

You're known for:

  • Precision in language (no unnecessary fluff, no misplaced claims).

  • Balancing investor, media, KOL, and patient narratives simultaneously.

  • Expecting polished, client-ready deliverables.

  • Blending mission-driven storytelling with real business impact.

And outside the decks and data tables, you're:

  • Passionate about meaningful milestones (in business and life).

  • A traveler, planner, and big-picture thinker.

  • Someone who takes pride in building culture and capability — not just campaigns.

If you were writing your own headline, it might be:

Biotech Communications Strategist | Operator | Builder of Narrative and Teams

Who am I? Personally

According to ChatGPT:

Personally?

You're someone who cares deeply — about your work, your people, and the impact behind both.

You're:

  • Protective of your team but expect excellence. You want people to grow, and you'll invest in them — but you also draw clear lines.
  • Strategic by nature. Even in personal decisions (travel, milestones, career moves), you think ahead, map scenarios, and optimize.
  • Metrics-driven but mission-led. Outcomes matter to you — but meaning matters just as much.
  • Direct. You don't like fluff, passive language, or wasted time. You prefer clarity.
  • Quietly sentimental. You care about milestone birthdays, family trips, holiday traditions, your dog Holly, and the human stories behind the science.
  • Proud of where you're from and who you support. (Go Birds.)

You blend high standards with heart. You want things done right — and you want them to matter.

If I had to distill it:

You're ambitious, disciplined, loyal, and purpose-oriented — but you're also someone who values experiences, relationships, and building something lasting.

Does that feel accurate — or do you think I'm missing something important?

Lei e Italiana

Today marks two weeks of taking Italian!

Ok, it's Duolingo, but still it's been super fun to learn a new language.

I've already well exceeded my last attempt to learn Italian in college.

Staycation

Coming off a lovely 4-day staycation! Had a great time with my very special out-of-town house guest. Drank all the wine, ate all the foods…and had a fantastic home-cooked meal. It was great to truly zone out for a few days and be spoiled.

Girl stuff

Doing girl shit has changed over the years. Today, I recharged my car battery, fixed the convertible top, changed a lightbulb in the ceiling and hung a picture. There were about a zillion other things in today's episode of this old house, including trying to fix my fridge.

Grueling, yes, but I still managed to be a girl having a dance party while use my hammer as a microphone.

Would a big, strong man be helpful at times like these? Sure. But, as I've been told…adapt, react and overcome.

Gina Smash?

Sometimes a hole in the wall opens a gash in your heart. Nothing is worse than having an open wound in your home to remind you of the past.

No matter how much I rebuild, things pop up. This weekend was no different. I finally got my 50lb bag of rock salt after a week of delays.

No joke, 50lbs is flipping heavy. After shimmying the bag inside the front door, I pushed it to the hallway leading to my garage. I went to brace myself for the final leg, and pop, pow, I put a hole in the wall.

I would love to say it's because I'm a super strong ninja, but this hole was poorly fixed by the person who put it there years ago.

I was pissed, then sad after remembering how horrible it watching that hole get punched. Then, I was embarrassed. Not because it was my fault, but because once again I had to clean up the aftermath of someone else.

While I would typically call my BIL, he's on the injured reserves at the moment. I then wavered between the guy who fixed 3/4 of this house and my other faux hubbies. Ultimately, I made the call.

Now I will get a lovely lesson in drywall repair.

Infuriatingly yours…

Two years

"The pauper can't marry the princess and expect to walk away with half the castle."

It's been two years since I heard the retired judge give me my freedom and my name back. The financial loss was well worth the gain.

I've reached a new level of happiness and bliss.

I celebrate this day…I celebrate myself. I slept in, took a (very cold) hour long walk with my Holly girl, got my nails done.

I breathe long and deep, appreciating the love I'm surrounded with…

Happy freedom-versary to me!!

Plot twist

No matter how I much I anticipate life, it seems to give me some interesting turns.

The past couple weeks has been rough at work, dealing with a new client who doesn't follow our typical no a**holes policy.

For the first time in a while, I've been pretty consumed with work. Not how it used to be, especially since I'm cognizant of it, but, still.

Finally landing in a decent spot on the work front, I had the grace of Microsoft shutting down.

Excited by some breathing room, I sat down to relax…and boom. Plot twist.

Out of nowhere I get a message. Not someone I dated…from my brother's childhood best friend.

A normal person would think that this is no big deal, but my brother and I didn't have a close relationship.

Also, they wouldn't know that at least a decade ago, he and I came up as a match on a dating site.

So, obviously, bizarre.

Poor guy is clearly going through something to decide now is the time to regret not meeting up with me then.

I flagged this immediately to my counsel of girls, who I promised to alert to any red flags.

What did those bitches have to say? He's not married, handsome and owns a successful business…just don't get married.

Phewwww. This girl ain't falling for that trap!

I was polite but we can save that drama.

Ain't no one got time for that.

Rough and tumble

It's been a rough start, but manageable thanks to my support team. Of course, taking time off to spend the night babysitting my godson made things right. Seeing his face as he opened his birthday gifts I gave him was priceless.

I'm grateful that I have the means to handle what years ago would send me to spiral.

Two types of tears

Tears of happiness and sadness…I've managed to have both in 24 hours.

I was doing a 1:1 with one of my coworkers (because employees doesn't feel right). She went on a 10-minute rave about how I'm a good leader who cares and the clients are drawn to me like a magnet. Tears of pride welled up. I never planned on being a leader mostly because everybody that led me was a perfect example of things I didn't want to be in my life so when I took this position, I wanted to stay true to my roots and just be a good human. I wanted to be as fair as possible to everyone I work with and show them that leading with kindness creates a better outcome.

Flash forward to today when I was hit with the exact type of leadership that I strive to avoid. One of my clients got a new head and it has been hard to manage expectations. They are used to working with large PR firms that flood their inboxes with PowerPoints and strategy. I don't have an issue with this beyond we don't work like that because we are a very nimble and lean group of five people. I devoted much of my time over the last few months working to give this person what they've come to expect even though we do not have the time and we do not have the budget.

Today on our weekly call with my full team and the client's full team I was blindsided and forced to endure an hour of hearing how nothing was good enough. Thankfully, my boss is an amazing dude and had my back. But, the feeling of letting him and my team down - despite not actually doing so - was too much. As I explained to my best girls, the only silver lining is that this person came for me and not my coworkers. Because if you know me, you know that's a surefire way to get me to go full ape shit.

After some tears and talking with my boss, I decided to go for a walk in the freezing cold to shake this off rather than spiral. My entire team and the rest of the client team spent that time texting and helping me. As I was walking, I realized what happened to me, only reflected poorly on the client. I'm not a fan of leading with fear and her team knows it, and as I told my boss, the professional thing to have done was to have both extended teams drop off the call so we could've discuss the issues and worked towards a solution.

Unfortunately, it seems this person just wanted to get our team out so they could hire someone they prefer. The bummer of that is I'm exceptionally good at documenting everything which I spent three hours doing to make it ironclad that we have done nothing wrong.

Every experience in life helps for the next experience. Whether it's good or bad for example a couple weeks ago, I helped a friend whose car broke down at a gas pump. Since my own car broke down once, I knew from one of my friends to follow her home in case something else happened.

But perhaps more appropriately for this occasion, knowing how to document every single item because of my second divorce came in super handy to create an extensive document.

Not the best day, but also knowing I have a team who has my back those tears dried up very quickly.

Would I do it again?

Would I do it again for that dance? Yep. Do you think it's about you? It's not.

Would I do it again for that smile? Yep.
Do you think it's about you? It's not.

Do I miss you every single day? Yes.
Do you think it's about you? It's not.

It's about Mambo #5, it's about cherries in the sky, it's about "winning" the world's largest teddy bear playing skeeball.

So many memories blended together which come to life in the most amazing ways.

Family moments, laughter, unexpected cookie drops…

Being present and enjoying every second.

Whoosh…tick tick boom.

It’s been a very good year

I hate jinxing myself by saying this, but it is one for the books - and finally in a positive way.

I've made some truly amazing friends on top of having already the world's greatest group of friends.

I achieved a level of my career that I didn't think was possible and 98% of the time, I love my job.

I turned my parents into insane bleeding green eagle fans.

Tonight at the salon, one of the stylists there said to me, "you're not client status anymore you're just friends status." that's just the best feeling. They also asked if I would get a part-time job there so I could be with them all the time.

And capping the night off with a great conversation from a former intern, turned colleague, turned friend was heartwarming.

I have savored all the moments even these little bad hiccups today being one of them with work, but it's so rare.

Grateful for working my way out of the mess that I was in to get to where I am.
