Dumped. That's right. On New Years Eve... yet again, another Mr. Wonderful... this time, he went out and ran into some ex-girlfriend from years ago who he was madly in love with... blah blah blah...
Literally, I'm writing this in real time... so, I'm speechless. Let me write it for you in another way:
Dear G –
Saw the note that you thought things were getting better and just figured it would be best to throw one more last gut punch your way. So, Mr. Nice Guy has fallen back in love with his ex-girlfriend who he just “happened” to run into last night.
Hope you enjoy the final kick in your face, throw you down a flight of stairs present from me to you. I hope 2009 enjoys f'ing with you as much as I have.
Love,
2008
WTF 2008?! You sucked. Big hairy ones... Kiss my bum. Suck it, G

P.S. I Love You
"Remarkably swell and calm," says the girl who is currently wearing a wrist brace from an unknown injury that is making it nearly impossible to pick up things with her right hand, while attempting to plunge her toilet with her brand new plunger that doesn't work for crap, but is super cute with its clear handle and gray plunger thingymabobby.
Oh yea... you didn't think life was THAT perfect for me, did you?
Still, I'll take it over the alternative. At least for now. And I bought the wrist guard in black - so I'm pretending that I'm not injured from doing something I don't recall... instead, I have a superpower... like I'm secretly Wolverine.. Or Wolver-G...

Let that ball drop!
I promised myself that this week I wouldn't do any work... not that blogging for my favorite readers is "work" persay, but to tell all the lovely tales over the past 2 weeks, it will require some time and photo uploading (get ready for my dad, Santa).
So - I'll give you a quickie:
The boy Santa brought me - Yea, we're on date 4 now. Oh yea, that's right, I said date 4. That would be 3 more than most of the other boys in G's dating adventures... and apparently I'm meeting his roommates sometime this weekend. This guy makes plans, sends me messages nearly every day and wants to see me. I'm afraid I'm starting to get used to being treated well. But, I'm still paranoid considering the past, so, trying to keep some semblance of reality before I really start swooning here...
Holidays - were pretty great. With the exception of a slinky that's dressed in a stuffed animal cat fashion - my parents did a pretty decent job of adhering to the gift list... and even the Brita they got me I actually needed.
Work - I signed off this week. Ok - mostly off. I've answered 3 emails, all of which needed to be done before year's end. Not too shabby for the workaholic, eh?
As you can see kids... at the moment, life is pretty darn swell and remarkably calm. I've been maxing and relaxing for the past two days... doing some of my fav G pastimes - Internet shopping, pedi, veggin'...
Ready for that ball to drop and move onward and upward in 2009!
I wish you all a Happy New Year!
Much love -
G

Happy Holidays and Funny Ha Has...
My dear readers -
As I prepare to depart for the holiday festivities in Nueva Jersey, a few final tidbits to give you a smile during the holiday season. Before I get started, thank you to all who sent beautiful Christmas cards. They are all lovely. I didn't get a chance to get cards out, but I really enjoyed all of yours.
I really wish pictures did Terrence Trent T'Ree justice - I'm looking at him in all his glory. Haven't had much time to truly enjoy TTT, but it's been great to have him around.
Exactly how big is TTT? He's SO big, that my massage therapist couldn't fit the table in the room. He was pretty impressed by the size of him though.
In the spirit of family and holidays, I'd thought you'd all enjoy the following text message exchange between me and my sister. I think it gets right to the heart of being around family for the holidays. To her credit, she did me a favor and deposited a check... which started this. Keep in mind, this entire exchange took place while I was at work.
Sis: Deposited check. You said MY account, right?
Me: I said MY account.
Sis: Right, MY account.
Me: Smartass
Sis: Butt wipe
Me: Snotrag
Sis: Kath (mom) protege
Me: That's below the belt, toe cheese
Sis: Belly button lint, I win
Me: Do not drug pusher
Sis: Peer pressure baby.
What's with the drug pusher, bit, you ask? Noticing my high stress levels this past weekend, my sister forced me to take Ativan for the first time - a very relaxing medication, which forced me to giggle uncontrollable and fall asleep on my brother's couch during my niece's birthday party.
That's right, parents of younger kids, when you look at them playing and fighting, keep in mind that sibling arguing goes on forever.
If I don't sign back on... Merry Christmas all!!
Much love always -
G

Capturing Christmas
It’s no secret that I’ve been through the ringer the past month or so, which some of you know well better than others. Some would say that my faith has been tested, other more positive people would say I’ve been given more of a reason to appreciate what I’ve got. And at the moment, I’m stuck in the middle of both trying to remain on the optimistic side.
After all it’s Christmas – and Christmas is my favorite time. I have to say, as if the past few weeks of drama and chaos haven’t been enough, the Grinches threatening to evict me and finding TTT on the floor, really put me over the edge. Nothing is worse than the “why me” feeling.
But, the old adage is true, everything really does happen for a reason. Take the tree – sure, it was no fun cleaning up a 9-ft tree which has stained my carpet. But, the counterpoint to that? Having the Griswolds down here to decorate the tree, instead of just seeing it fully done. My family and I haven’t decorated a tree together since I was a kid – so capturing that moment again was pretty fun (despite several incidents that almost toppled TTT again). And as crazy and loud as they are, having a few days of having my place actually feel like a home was a really welcome change.
And even beyond family, I actually forced myself to go out on a date last week. Wasn’t really looking forward to it, after the whole ups and downs with Mr. February, but I knew if I didn’t, I’d never get back out there. Have to say, the date when pretty well, and I’m supposed to see him again after the fam leaves. He’s even been in constant contact since we met – what a welcome change from Mr. MIA (who by the way has tried to contact me this weekend).
So, kids, I’m not sure how this one will work out, but then again, I guess you never know what life will hand to you right? All you can do is go with it. And while the universe continues to throw me some serious curve balls, I’m going to do my best to embrace the good, smooth over the bad and keep on keepin’ on.
That’s my Christmas story this year. Santa brought me back my Christmas spirit, my family, and even a surprise – a relatively nice boy. Fingers crossed the boy stays, but if not, the family and friends never disappear. And let’s talk about friends for a minute. You’re not unnoticed in this fun tale. I, quite literally, would NOT be here right now if it wasn’t for all of you who’ve supported me through a really rough time the past few weeks. I joke a lot about baths with toasters and Clorox cocktails, but this time was no joke, I was at the edge and you all stood by me – whether you knew about everything or not. I can’t repay that kind of love – all I can do is love everyone that much and more in return.
Really looking forward to seeing my Jersey peeps next weekend. I love and miss you all very much.
Smooches,

Testing the Theory...
For those of you in doubt that JC doesn't love me... let me paint you a picture.
I woke up at 5 am today, too anxious to sleep because of the event. In the office by 7:15, at the Capitol by 8. Minor problem - Capitol Security won't let us in until 8:30.
Event goes great, second meeting, awesome... day ends 6:38... late for decorating Terrence Trent T'Ree with Former Roomie... hour 11 of billable work, hour 13 of being wide awake.
Come home... find Terrence Trent T'Ree flat on floor... poor thing might as well have a chalk outline... which you could equate to the flooding lining my carpeting. Time: 7 pm...
8 pm... TTT stands on his own. Copious amounts of needles and branches coat the floor as vacuuming and drying the carpet with a hair dryer and towels commence.
9 pm - drunk dial the 'rents to tell them that when they arrive this weekend we're having a fun ol' family christmas and decorating my fallen f'in tree. Reiterate the fact that we're going to have more fun then when Bing Crosby danced with Danny F*ckin K. Have parents asked "are you sloshed?"
G hangs up.

I have found the Grinch!
I got a call at work today from my building. Not to alert me to flooding in my apartment or holes cut by the construction crew. Apparently, they received numerous complaints because I had a tiny Christmas wreath made of jingle bells on my door. That's right - I received a threat that they would be filing to potentially evict me, because of a measly indication of Christmas cheer.
If I didn't have a life that involved me working 10 hours a day, I'd probably be taking this a lot more personally. It's not for certain, that I won't be posting an op-ed to the Washington Post because, hey, I'm still in PR and exposing people who have nothing better to do with their lives than issue anonymous rageful complaints is fun to do. According to my security guard, there is a whole posting on the co-op website about the grief my wreath has called.
Literally, all I could do was laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. Of all the things to "bust" me for - you're gonna bust me for Christmas cheer?! Seriously, folks, GET A LIFE, you Bah Humbug ho bags.
It's a damn good thing no one saw me stuff Terrence Trent T'ree, my 9+ foot Christmas monument, in my apartment or else, heaven help us all. I'm pretty tempted to get 5 more sets of lights and make my tree visible from space... but I'll refrain. I can tell you that if anyone complains about my tree - then there will be war.
Wish me luck - the majority of my craziness ends tomorrow with a potentially SRO (that's standing room only) event - G takes over the Capitol for an hour.
Smooch from your fun lovin' Christmas criminal.

Size Matters.
I have learned my lesson. Never ever mention that I may not have Christmas - apparently this is a sign to you all that the world is coming to an end. Many thanks to Former Roomie for helping me get my tree. I got the lighting up, but I'm way too tired to even begin to decorate.
Hope you enjoy the initial photos. For those of you who've never been to Casa De G, I just want to point out that my tree is next to my 6-foot ladder. That should probably give you a sense of the size.

Universe 3, G (still) 0
Greetings from Bridgewater, NJ. My deodrant exploded all over my black sweater and I look like a f'in dalmatian.
Life is swell. Still searching for someone to put me down like a rabid dog.

Universe 2, G 0
Hey all- greetings again from Amtrak. I'm in Trenton travelling with several work peeps. While on the train, I just found out my credit card info was stolen. Had a 13K charge from an office supply company.
Fortunately-the credit card co red flagged and just shut down the acct.I don't think it counts towards my reward points, though.
My life is the pinnacle of awesome. Anyone got a gun? Bottle of clorox?
I won't put up a fight.

The Sweater Song
Here's the perfect metaphor for my life, described by my clothing. I have a green sweater that I purchased last year. I wear it all the time... its one of my favorites. My sweater sprung a large hole on the cuff and I was devastated. Over the weekend, my mother was kind enough to fix the hole. So - today, I threw the sweater on and went to work. I got there, took off my jacket and noticed that I have a new hole, this one at chest level. I joked with Schmotty and Schmeffy that I was attempting to get a raise with my new risque sweater.
Then it dawned on me. My sweater is the perfect metaphor for my life right now. Fix one hole and another one opens.
*sigh*
At least I have the absurd talent to create humor when faced with adversity. All will be told in my book, "Are You Kidding, God? It's Me, Gina"... because I've decided that if the Universe is gonna screw with me, I'm turning a profit.
Stay tuned.

The 12 Days of Christmadness
Greetings from Amtrak, my home away from home. For the next 12 days, I will be working like a dog as I attempt to pull off:
1) Biggest work launch of the year - which will make or break my account
2) Office holiday party, which I didn't volunteer for, but now am helping with because I know one of the best chefs in town
3) A 2 day retreat with my client in NJ this week. Yep, Amtrak and I spend quality time on Thurs and Fri too
4) A Mary Kay holiday party with my sis-in-law
5) 2 doc appts that I can't miss
And the grand finale:
6) My niece and my sister's bdays, both in the same weekend.
Oh- and Christmas shopping, which with this schedule may be at WaWa. Hope my Secret Santa enjoys Tastycakes.
I guessing someone probably just said "Wait. What about her love of Christmas? When will she get her tree?"
Future for that is looking grim. May just not be the year for me to have a tree or decorate, but we'll see.

Giving thanks
If the people who knew me well compared me to an ad slogan, it would probably be "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'"
The last few weeks have been no exception.
I'm still thankful though. Thankful that I have the close friends who stand not only by, but up for me.
Thankful that I'm able to see the humor in the dark situations.
Thankful that, despite all the wrong I've done or encountered, there are people (and you know who you are) that love me. Unconditionally and without judgement.
In a few short minutes, I'm meeting my dad at the train station for another Griswold thanksgiving. I'm thankful for that too.
I wish you all the best Thanksgiving.
Smooch-
G

More yang for my ying...
So - Internet is working... Internet Explorer, however, still crashes (cue the comment about getting a Mac and avoiding these problems)...
About 15 mins after I posted about my Internet, I developed a runny nose... which escalated in about 2 hours to a full blown cold. I've been under a blanket and on cold meds since 5 pm last night.
What a weekend - worked until 8:45ish on Friday night, then spent Saturday am working, then fixing my computer, now sick...
Oh, and anyone seeking a Mr. Feb update... guess what? I'm seeking one too... actually, scratch that. I swear to you, final straw.
Things are pretty bad at the moment... so could use those good vibes.
I really do wish I was in Jersey right now.

God Bless India...
After weeks of no Internet, 3 hours of Linksys/Comcast tech support and $130 to the computer store... I'm back!
Many thanks to the kind Indian man who spent 1 hour and 25 mins on the phone with me to restore my router...
Finally no blogging from my Blackberry.
One fire out, many more to go. I really wish I was in Jersey right now.

My bath with toaster day
The day I'm having:
1. Mr.February continues his disappearing boy act. Didn't I already date a magician? That one didn't end well either.
2. Have major overload at work causing us to do double the work with half the staff. More than likely, forcing me to work this weekend.
3. The computer store who I called to fix my computer and swore I didn't need an appointment closing early before I left work an hour early to get there.
And the piece de resistance?
4. My favorite DC hangout - my pool hall is closing. No longer can I walk down the stairs to see my bartender pouring a pitcher and getting a table ready. No more crazy drunken stories about the bad jukebox, Dee's drunkin Bon Jovi singing and getting flagged after one drink. The first place I ran to when I quit my 18 day stint at sobriety. Poof - all gone.
I haz a sad.

wow
I actually am crying.
For the record, Schmeffy said the concession speech would be made at 11:18. To the minute, he was right. Way to go!!
DC is madness right now. Amazing.like new years. Screaming beeping hugging.

Cautiously Optimistic
We're not official, but am growing more hopeful. What numbers matter most? Hearing 80 percent voter turnout in states like Virginia. Proud of our country today. No matter who wins the Presidency, we all won by reclaiming the vote.
Haven't felt this proud since I watched the humanity that unfolded in NYC on 9/11. I hope that whatever change comes our way, that we can finally build off the positive momentum and finally come together and heal as a country.
And for the record, no I haven't been drinking. I'm vegging on my couch freezing. In fact, I'm supposed to be at a party but worked way too late. I just get truly emotional when it comes to possibility of progress and positivity. I love this city for that reason - people passionate enough to fight for what they believe is right. Its inspirational and energizing.

More live bloggin. Despite the continued wait, it did just hit me that here I am in our Nation's capital executing my right to create change. Pretty f'in cool. Another Capraesque moment in this city that stole my heart.
And, finally I touched my screen and entered my ballot.
If only everyone cared this much about our country everday. Think what we could accomplish.
Here's to making a difference.

Go Vote!!
They were not joking about th line, but my readers, do not let that deter you! Republicat or Democan,go vote!! None of my Mr. February updates are nearly as important then you getting your bums to the polls!
Ok- since I'm stuck in line and live bloggin, maybe one update. Last nite, Mr. Feb and Former Roomie came over to watch a film. Despite FR's eclectic convo choices, Mr. Feb had a good time. :).
Life is swell at the moment. As I said before, change is imminent.

Civic Duty.
Today, I sat amongst an interesting cross-section of Americana. A place where servants of justice surveyed each of us, bound and determined to make sure they had the best suited candidates for their needs.
Alright, I'll forgo the rest of my eloquent Capra-esque description, I went to jury duty.
I wish it was Capra-esque, unfortunately it made the DMV look like the pearly gates of heaven. From 7:45 am to 5:05 pm, I was at the Superior Court, in a holding room. Not just any ordinary holding room... the Juror's Lounge was filled with deluxe accomodations (read: chairs). And I can't forget the quality entertainment - they forced us to watch Sandra Bullock in "The Net", not once, but twice. When the movie started again, I was concerned that I wasn't serving jury duty but yet falling victim to new terrorist interrogation experiments. I had an escape route out the window ready just in case they put Celine Dion on and locked the door.
Yet, despite practicing my best lines from Pacino, "This whole court is out of order" and Jack, "You can't HANDLE the truth"... I was not selected to serve. I was rejected Juror #505. *sigh*
But, the time out of the office did lead to another amusing text message exchange between G and Dad.
G: Don't ever let me work for the government.
Dad: Great benefits... retirement
G: If I get mom on the phone, will she get me out of serving or placed in contempt? Toss up, I guess.
Dad: She'll talk them out of jail time.
G: I don't buy that, she may ask for more.
Dad: Call me later. Going 2 boat.
G: Must be nice. I pay for your retirement and am stuck doing civic service. And you go to the boat.
Dad: I'm cleaning out 4 winter.
Geez... I don't want to say he was right, but that is the life of retirement w/great benefits from a former gov't employee.
Ah well - the justice system may not want me... but I know you do!

Good and Bad News...
Bad news - my computer is still totally f'ed. Still trying figure out how to fix it.
Good news - Mr. February met more friends yesterday... this time, he came with me to my friend's new house. I was a bit worried... but before I could even turn around to introduce him, he was in the middle of a conversation. Second time he's received a resoundng two thumbs up...
Now, if he could only quit the disappearing, we'd be in a much better place.
BTW - I almost blew the lid on my blog... when complaining about my computer's STDs, I said "I can't lose my files, I have over 400 pages of my bllll, er... documents".
Whew - close one.
My computer is freezing about every other minute, so need to close down.
Hope y'all are well.

Forget home improvements...
I have many, many viruses on my computer and can no longer access my stuff. Suck ass.
I have to call Geek Squad, which Melissa pointed out, could lead to even bigger problems, given my tech geek fetish.
Oy.

Did I leave out the fact that I'm home improvement retarded?
Thank you for the "caulk" advice... but some questions:
1) What the heck is that?
2) Will I injure myself using it?
3) Are you SURE that I can "caulk" myself?
Please keep in mind who you're talking to people... I don't want to have to write more entrys involving me gluing myself to well, myself.
Free weekend of fun to anyone who comes down and "caulks" me...
Ok - let me clarify 'free weekend of fun' before I go to jail... I mean, free booze, free food and unlimited G time to anyone kind enough to come down and repair my pad.

For those of you who haven't seen Casa De G, I have about 16 windows all about 5 feet or so in height... nice, pretty column like windows, which would be great, if there wasn't a ridiculous draft that makes me want to re-name Casa De G to Gone with the Wind.
Any thoughts on how to seal these babies up for the winter? It's already sub-artic in here...
(yes, that means its about 68 degrees... I'm a big baby and hate being cold).

The 2nd Great Debate...
Democrat daughter v. Republican Father battle it out in tonight's final text message debate regarding our next president.
G: That was a solid answer from Obama. (Note: his point on education) Game over! I get to stay in the country!
Dad: I think McC is done.
G: Thank god. He's tired. It's late for old people.
Dad: I'm up.
G: You're not old. You can use a computer and the google.
Dad: McC sounds stupid.
G: Vote democrat, Dad. You know you want to.

A Page from G's (Cook)Book
Wha? G's cookbook? Oh yes, friends. Maybe it is to prove that I can do more than nearly cause my place to burn down due to mixing chicken and boys. Could be that I actually watched half an episode of Rachel Ray yesterday. Or perhaps its just my desire to see every side of Prego Melissa's emotions, but I have developed another recipe. This one is based on an American classic... I give you G's Meatloaf.
G's Meatloaf
1 lb. ground beef
3 handfuls of breadcrumbs
1 slice of bread
1 large egg
(NOTE: these ingredients below are all the seasonings, etc. I eyeballed, but here's my guesstimates)
Grated cheese (a good amount)
1 tbsp. chili powder
1 tbsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. cayenne pepper (*not required for the spiceless types)
Salt & Pepper (to taste)
Ketchup
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Put all ingredients in a large bowl. I have a set of cute pink ones from Williams Sonoma, but I'm sure any mixing bowl will do.
3. Mush ingredients together until they are all well mixed. Get dirty - use those hands!
4. On a non-stick cookie sheet, mold meatloaf into big, uh, loaf. Ok, I don't have a cookie sheet - I actually use an old tray from a toaster oven, but I'd definitely use a cookie sheet if I had one.
5. Bake for 30 minutes, then check to see how it's progressing. Should be almost done, so add a thin layer of ketchup to the top.
6. Cook for another 10 minutes.
And voila, yummy meatloaf!
Yay! She can cook... what next? Ya never can tell!

One Word.
FUN! This weekend was just nothing but some (very necessary) good ol' fashioned f-u-n. Special thanks to Schmeffy and his wife for making the long trip to DC and for enduring a very packed itinerary. We did our best to leave no stone un-turned in our Nation's Capitol...
And the rest of the weekend was spent... well, I'll just say relaxin' with someone special. Details to come.
Have a good night, all!

Surviving G
Rough week, my friends... for me and McCain (I only feel bad for one of us). For those of you who haven't read my guest blog on Melissa's site, I go into great detail about fits o' prego rage. Well - this past week I had my own fit o' rage, rather close to the time I dropped a wok full of water all over myself, ran into my bedroom and started to cry. Until Tuesday, there had only been two people to ever witness a G meltdown, Schmeffy and Former Roomie.
In his effort to cheer me up, Mr. February caught himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and became the third to witness such a state. Quivering, cursing, pacing around my apartment, Mr. February tried his best not to laugh. Funny thing is after 15 minutes, he had me completely calm... very strange.
One would think this would lead him to run screaming from my apartment, never seeing me again, but I've actually heard from him more in the past two days, than I have in weeks.
Who knew me being the most ridiculous, raw and retarded version of myself would be a good thing?
Not I.
Keep ya posted... he is still moving to NYC in January... and NO, Melissa... just because he's moving up there, doesn't mean I'm moving back!

Had A Bad Day... Curse of the Pink Phone, the Sequel
Let me sum it up as follows:
Badly behind at work, needed to do at least 4 hours more but had to leave at 6:30. Phone broke (yes, again) leading me to whack my noggin into a giant concrete panda, yell obscenities throughout a Verizon Wireless store after an hour wait, nearly start to cry when I have to rush in a cab on the way home to get tech support who ask me for the 90th time if I have a LAND line (NO - because technology is supposed to WORK)... in the midst of this do y'all know who pops up?
Oh yea - Mr. February... who when he got my text "How perfect... adding to my day from hell"... shows up and starts knocking on my window. His job is moving him to NYC as of January. WTF? Don't contact me for 3 weeks then show up on my doorstep, er, window to tell me that?
Yep. Today better be better or I'm jumping in front of a bus.

Woman to English Dictionary.
I usually don't cheat and post things that I get via forwards... but this is both particularly relevant and astonishingly accurate.
My advice to the male readers - use this as your bible and we'll co-exist much better. The only thing I'd add to this is "Mhmm!" which is the equivalent of 'bite me'. As used in a sentence: "Thanks so much, G, for picking up my lunch when you've got no time and will be here until 9 pm tonight." G answers: Mhmm! (Danger, my friends, DANGER).
9 Words that Women Use
(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3)Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4)Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous state ments a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says "Thanks a lot" - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say "you're welcome" ... that will bring on a "whatever").
(8)Whatever: Is a women's way of saying F*cK YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking "What's wrong?" For the woman's response refer to # 3.

Perhaps... or just the need for much change. My favorite quote of all time is "Death is dwelling on the past or staying in one place too long." You just have to love Cher.

Don’t Buy (or Drop) the Soap on Alcatraz and Other Fun Travel Tips from the Original Windy City
If you’re saying, “G – I’ve been waiting on this post for like 3 months”… bite me. Granted, I’m behind and fighting this cold is giving me a chance to play catch up. But, I was more inspired to write this to give, in true Palin style, a shout out to a newer reader who’s about to embark on an incredible journey. Also – Senor Ray mentioned about a week or so ago that I still owe him an apology for my trip (explanation to come), so, again… sorry Ray – I know I’m still ranking pretty low on your list of favorite people, but there’s been a lot of stuff going on that has made my life a pretty confusing place.
But – onward and upward! Here are some things I learned while traveling in San Francisco, with my best gal, Nicole.
Tip #1 – If you’re like me, a typical Type A overworked, underpaid person, be sure to travel with someone who loves to make decisions. I actually learned this tip back in Key West when I was with my Adviser de Futura, Mr. M. Mixologist and I have never, ever forgotten it. When you spend your day managing people and making decisions - nothing is more relaxing then traveling with someone who is calling the shots. Nicole was amazing – it is her sheer joy in life to plan. Before I even got in her car at the Philly train station, she had an itinerary a mile long. I just had to show up and smile, feeling the stress immediately releasing from my shoulders.
Tip #2 – Purge and splurge. You’re on vacation – drop the guilt and live to the hilt, because your life is there when you get back. I was a bit weary about overspending at first, but, every penny was worth it and honestly, when you’re not thinking about it… you really don’t overspend as long as you stick to quality items. Case in point – Nicole and I had the very last two seats by the bathroom over a sold out plane to SF. Not only were there people, there was also a tiny dog, just as cramped under the seat.
Despite the yummy cocktails from our stewardess, my back felt like a twisted accordion. I was feeling sorta bad for wanting to drop everything and get a massage, especially since in most instances, hotel massages are not worth the money. But, rather than complain the entire time, I went and it was the best money I ever spent. The masseuse was phenomenal and I felt like a million bucks the rest of my trip. Plus, there’s that added bonus of knowing you did something you wouldn’t normally do.
Also - when offered, travel first class. Admittedly, I had never traveled first class and was sure it wouldn’t be worth the $150 upgrade. I was SO wrong. We didn’t get booze because it was a morning flight, but to not be crammed in a tiny seat with people everywhere – worth every penny in stress alleviation
Tip #3 – San Francisco is farkin cold. When we got off the plane, I didn’t feel it. When a former co-worker picked us up for lunch and stared at me in a tank top, still nothing. It wasn’t until I was popping out of the shower and saw Nicole shaking like she just survived the second Ice Age in “Day After Tomorrow” that I started to realize something was different about the weather. There’s a reason why it’s called the original windy city – the shifts are completely unpredictable. You can be in a t-shirt one second, a scarf, hat and gloves in the next - all depending on which way the wind blows and if the sun pops out.
However, when I asked numerous people how to pack for SF, I was told “eh, take a jacket… it can get chilly.” That is a piss poor explanation. For those of you who never been to SF, let me give you Nicole’s more accurate description – “SF is like driving in a convertible on a 65-degree, crisp fall day – freezing when you’re going above 40 mph, but tolerable when you’re at the stop light.” And that is exactly what SF feels like depending on whether the wind is blowing or not.
Believe or not, I LOVE this type of weather. One of my biggest complaints about DC is the nasty humidity. Yet, I was completely unprepared for it – I heard 70s and I thought t-shirts… it took me about 5 hours in SF before I was in the market for a scarf, hat and jacket.
Tip #4 – Eat good, drink well. I had some amazing food when I was in SF – and some even more amazing cocktails. Take our hotel bar, the Pied Piper, where I had the most amazing Spanish Coffee ever. They were no slouch on mojitos either. Food was just as delicious – I ate so much seafood, it’s really quite amazing to realize that I’ve only been eating all types of seafood for only a few years. And, I, of course have to note that the Stinking Rose, was absolutely delicious – even if the crew there proceeded to get us stinking drunk. Which brings me to …
Tip #5 – Beware of the drunk dial when outside your time zone. In my defense, I was having the time of my life and one of the funniest nights ever. It was so good, that I had a burning desire to tell people about it. So – I tried to do just that. I honestly had no idea why people were hanging up on me. It wasn’t until I woke up with a pounding headache and my phone next to me that realized that I was on the West Coast. But, despite significantly angering a number of you, bruising myself from falling down a wheelchair ramp, more than likely throwing up in the bathroom at some point, reeking of garlic and walking around SF the next day looking like a crazed homeless lady with a bottle of diet coke and a bag of Doritos, it was well worth it and brings me to…
Tip #6 – Always take time to hang with the locals, or at the very least, get their suggestions. I love this tip – and it was the only request I had while Nicole was laying out our vacation plans. If you do it right, you’re going to get awesome results and it makes you lose that whole “I’m a dorky tourist that should have a fanny pak” feeling. You need to keep your eye out for someone who looks like the type of person you want advice from and then speak up. The minute we sat down to dinner at the Stinking Rose, I knew our smiling waiter was the man with a plan. Couple that with Nicole being pretty buzzed from our pre-dinner cocktail at the hotel and I seized my opportunity for an awesome night. From the minute I asked our waiter for his thoughts, he came back nearly instantly with several of his friends – all with lists of things we should do. Feeling the blueberry margarita, Nicole cooed over the opportunity to sing karaoke and he had me the second he mentioned pool. We hit karaoke first and Nicole got her wish that it was “authentic”. We walked into the Bow Wow Lounge – a Japanese karaoke joint – literally – wall to wall Japanese men singing in Japanese. Nicole’s rendition of “What A Feeling” was delightful and she made many friends. But between a bartender that didn’t like me and my desire to hit some balls, I dragged her up to Hawaii West, the Stinking Rose’s after work hangout. It was there that we took our night to a whole new level. At this point, both pretty intoxicated, I left Nicole with a new bartender and money for the jukebox, while I proceeded to clear an entire table to the sounds of “hustler” and “shark”. I looked up, thinking Nicole must be bored out of her mind, but instead I heard her yell “Come on 7!”… She had found fun of her own, in the form of an illegal dice gambling game with the bartender and even more new friends. When I heard her say “shots for everyone”, I finally recognizing my drunken state and went to go collect her at the bar. Instead of leaving, I wound up meeting her friends and making out with a Hawaiian guy named Dennis. Nicole, who unbeknownst to me switched to water, finally dragged me out of the bar. I must say, West Coast boys are a bit nicer than the guys here. Dennis left me a voicemail offering to take me to breakfast, which I found pretty cute, given that it really was only a kiss. But I digress…
Tip #7 – Do visit, but don’t buy the soap at Alcatraz. Alcatraz was awesome and going at night, was especially creepy and fun. I bought a much needed scarf and soap as souvenirs, largely underestimating the smelliness of the soap – it STILL reeks. We took the ferry over which was way bumpier than I had anticipated. Nicole, who is admittedly more of a land lubber, wanted to go out on the deck, despite it feeling about 52 degrees out there. The water lover got the better of me, so we stepped out to see the enormous waves of the SF bay. It’s no wonder no one really could escape from that prison. Who would be crazy enough to swim in that water! As I watched the swells, I noticed Nicole just about to peer over the port side of the boat, being jolted by the cold wind, she exclaimed “I am not the sea faring type”, right before I could tell her to come back to the center of the boat, she proceeded to get hit by the afterspray of a giant wave. It was completely amusing and Nicole was an amazingly good sport cracking up the entire time. In fact, she handled the water much better than me, the self-proclaimed “nautical one”, which brings me to…
Tip #8 – Do go kayaking in SF, but don’t go with a pack of foreign exchange students. I was nervous to get in a kayak, ok, I was down right scared, after seeing the great SF bay. I had one bad experience tipping in a kayak in DC, which led me to falling into the Potomac and catching some nasty flu virus that left me out cold for days. Even though, I’ve kayaked many times and different places – Bahamas, Bermuda, Jersey, DC – given the cold, I was worried about falling into freezing waters. Nicole was way more daring, considering I was about to forgo the trip when I saw some people using “sit-in” kayaks (the same type that I fell OUT of in DC). I instantly grew a pair when I spotted a way cute kayak instructor and decided to go. I didn’t realize that we were going to have a pack of Spaniards with us. Apparently, in Spain, they don’t believe in privacy while changing so we caught a LOT of Spain while the boys got into and out of their kayaking gear. Kayaking was completely amazing – we stayed close to the land and kayaked through the back of the bay, going past the baseball field, where a game was just beginning and a million balloons were released right above us into the sky to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner. Completely beautiful. Of course, I wasn’t prepared to have to limbo under the bridges as the tide was rising, but we fared pretty well! If only I had put on sunscreen, I wouldn’t have been burnt from foot to knee only on the front side of my legs… such a pretty design and the smell of burnt flesh, delightful.
Tip #9 – Keep a travel log and have fun! Nothing beats reviewing all of this from the travel journal I bought out there. And there was plenty of more fun that we had, including skeeball, the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, Ghirardelli Square and other great adventures. Like hanging on to the side of a cable car for dear life and watching Nicole’s face turn white as she totally thought I was going to fall off as we flew down the steepest hill ever. I was pretty sure I was plunging to my death, but hey, at least I was wearing a smile.
Tip #10 – It’s all about the company you keep. Nicole and I hadn’t been on a vacation in a very, very long time… but nothing will ever replace having the time of my life, in a new place, with a very dear, old friend. Catching up and experiencing new things together… just made the whole experience a priceless whirlwind.
So, there it is, the super long, SF entry. As I’m writing this, I’m ready to pack my bags and call up Nic to embark on our next great adventure.

While I'm awaiting my cold meds to kick in...
While I was live blogging my debate thoughts last night, I was also texting with my dad... Yes, my dad is that cool, that I taught him how to text and he even had an unlimited text plan before me. Here's a look at Republican father v. Democrat daughter:
G: Are you really going to vote for someone that gave a shout out during a debate??!
Dad: She's trying to be like Reagan
G: Um. Reagan didn't give shout outs. How embarrassing.
Dad: She's trying to be different than DC crowd.
G: That can be accomplished by using proper English. Not betchas and shout outs. So degrading to the VP position.
Dad: Too much Alaska. She's going 4 blue collar vote (NOTE: he even knows how to abbreviate)
G: I get that. I am moving out of the country.
Dad: Key West is not out of the country. (see, where I get my sarcastic wit?)
G: True, but reconsidering whether Alaska should remain a state. Biden won.
My father now enjoys calling me and saying "Sarah Palin" into the phone, knowing it invokes a fit of rage. I don't think I've heard him laugh harder.
I'm out of Nyquil... hoping that a fine blend of Contact and Robitussin does the trick.
If you don't hear from me for a few days, someone may want to call to make sure I'm not licking the wallpaper or unconscious on the floor.

Greetings From Sick Bay...
Ugh. Being stuck at home sucks. Sorry to miss my Jersey peeps this weekend, but no need to make everyone miserable.
Many thanks to Former Roomie for dropping off his famous chili... I'm sure that it will cleanse the bad stuff out considering my insides are afire at the moment.
Off to nap after a long day of working from home...
smooch.

Holy Bridging...
Not even bridging... I've never seen someone just not answer a question. Wow.
If this woman says "dontcha" "gotcha" or talks in something that isn't proper English one more time... "wantcha?" Is she an f'in PussyCat Doll?
Oy.
A shout out to 3rd graders? Really? What has this country become? So Presidential... "I'd like to give a shout out to my homeboys..."
That's right folks... you TOO can become a VP. Just watch lotsa (oh yea, I said, LOTSA) Larry the Cable Guy and use the play like a hick when it counts "Geeeee... I'm clearly a Washington outsider and don't understand"... (I use this is pool ALL the time, btw... works like a charm)
Sorry kids... there's not much I'm traditional about, but you can reach "joe six pack american" without making it sound like you're on the Blue Collar Comedy tour. So degrading to the position of VP... embarrassing.
And, just to further my point, if Obama speaks in ebonics or jive during the next debate, do you think they'll call him "folksy"?? I don't think so, kids. "I wanna be Prez, ya dig?"... Nyet, my friends. Before he could get off the stage, people would be attacking him.
I may move down the street to that White House some day at this rate...
BTW - I'm so glad I didn't play the "Maverick" drinking game... between the cold medicine and the booze, I'd be hospitalized.

The Weakest Immune System Known To Man...
Someone told me it was mind over matter... well, it MATTERED to my mind that I go home sick today. After a five hour sleep-a-thon, I have woken up to a lovely hacking cough. I think going home managed to save me from full blown cold... but, that still leaves me with achey, coughy, need more rest...
Will keep the Jersey peeps posted on my status tomorrow. I know, right now, this stupid cold rules out visiting several of you (sorry Doyle family, I am so anxious to meet Lindsey, but certainly not at the price of getting her sick)... but I'm hoping it won't mean no trip to Jersey at all.

The Medicinal Uses of Beer and Other Fun Facts!
Hello my favorite readers... and an extra special smiley hello to the new angry commenter! You'll have to pardon Melissa's prego rage - it's one of the things I love most about her... As for me getting myself educated on politics... well, story for another time.
Out of respect for Schmeffster’s birthday, I drafted the majority of this last night, but didn't want to post until the end of today. It’s a slower week at Casa De G (which means I’m not at happy hour or working to the wee hours), I wanted to fill you in on a few things - beyond the cold that is coming on.
First - my horoscope yesterday said:
You and your friends are getting along like puppies in a litter, playing and yipping and having a great time. It's one of those days when you really feel how lucky you are to have such awesome people.
And, that was really accurate! The good thing about having a slower schedule was that I got to spend most of the night playing catch up with a lot of you. Miss you all SO much!
Secondly – Beer cures twitchy eye. Who knew? I’ve had several last night and no twitch! Of course, that all ended when I woke up and went to work.
Thirdly – For real, this is the end of Mr. February. That’s right kids… I have some hard decisions to make over the next few days… which I can’t disclose here at the moment, but Mr. February has to go. As fun as the last two years have been, I can’t handle the whole MIA act he plays, especially after he went from being Mr. Feb, the character, to the guy who meets my friends and is all sweet and nice and stuff… ugh.
Based on this romance news, I think I finally found where I should be. I belong on the Island of Misfit Toys. I haven’t figured out which character I resemble most yet… but I’m going with Misfit Dolly who according to Wikipedia is “an unnamed, but seemingly normal girl rag doll, who’s problem (revealed just a year ago) was psychological, caused when she was abandoned by her mistress and suffered depression from being unloved. Yea… that sounds about right... and its Christmas related, so…

Finally – I’ve been asked to guest blog again! Look for my latest and greatest entry on Fits & Giggles in a few days. Melissa is pregnant (yes, again!) – Third time is a charm and this is part two of my guidebook on how to handle the prego Melis, sans her hetero lifemate (aka yours truly).
That's about it for now, my peeps... Everyone think Vitamin C, because this scratchy throat, fuzzy head combo is NOT a good sign.

Happy Birthday Schmeffy!!
Yes, that's right folks... October 1st marks the day where the heavens opened up and graced us with the one and only Schmeffster. What does that mean for you readers? A special edition birthday roast, er, I mean, post. Now - let me preface this entry by saying that my world would definitely not be the same without Schmeff. I've known this man for now nearly half my life, 15 looong years, and while we've had our moments (i.e. the great vegetable tossing of '01) there are few people who have been able to endure me for this amount of time - let alone live with me for 6 straight years. Noone else has lasted that long... especially not for 6 Christmases! Schmeff can be a pain in my pooper for sure, but whether its lugging the largest Christmas tree in Hoboken four blocks in the pouring rain to make me happy or rushing to my rescue in various incidients (9/11, the blackout of '03 and my accidental abduction) - Schmeff remains one of the best.
All that said - one of his most entertaining qualities is Schmeffster's love and belief of conspiracy theories. He's the same guy who brought us the midget theory and post 9/11, he's the same guy who took a detailed account of every single PATH stop noting any packages or bottles. So, it came to no surprise to me, that Schmeff had another theory recently about some black metal boxes being placed around NYC. Usually Schmeff would test these theories out on me and Schmotty - so we could answer his fears or squash his logic. But alas - no longer a NYC gal, it seems this time, he took his theory to a mass public via blast email.
So - without much further ado, I give you Schmeff's latest theory. Normally, I would add some editor's notes to his thoughts, but well, it just stands perfectly on its own. If you people can't see just how funny this guy is from this email, then I will continue to try to convince you. But to me, knowing just how much time this occupied his mind with a mixture of fret and curiousity, cracks me up - mostly because I'd see something like this, get concerned, then look up and see something shiny or a puppy and all would be forgotten.
Finally - happy birthday Schmeffy... man, you're old. :-) Just kidding... ya know I love you!
And to all the people who also complained of twitchy eye to me today... I do feel slightly better that I'm not the only person who looks like a twitchy eye, crazed pirate out there.

The Black Box Theory - by Schmeffy
As a good amount of you know, I have been a little troubled recently by the unexplained appearance of these short black metal...apparently electrified monoliths that have been appearing on our streets over the past months. First, they started to appear on the streets around the 17th Street office. Then, I saw them scattered throughout the West Village. And now there is one right outside our own door!
For those of you that haven't seen them, they are a mere three feet tall and have 4 short metal posts that arise from the top. Posts that I can only describe as looking like leads that you would find atop a car battery. You are inclined to inspect further but quickly you notice that there is a sign hidden beneath the posts warning you what will be the result of your unchecked curiosity. An image (pictured below) that almost suggests Zeus himself will strike you down for questioning his Olympic power!

But what could it be? Would the city of New York, or someone else for that matter, actually install pint sized lightning rods throughout the city streets? Considering how often the winter news headlines talk about dogs electrocuted while walking down the street, would they really put open electric with little warning out through the city. A child could curiously put their hand on top of it, a bird could perch on the 'electrodes', a drunk could stumble onto it. So why?
Well of course to answer it I turned to the internet and to the some of the more knowledgeable New Yorkers I could find. I figured, 'Hey, I'm the one here from Jersey...so I must be in the dark.' But nothing. No one had any idea. I asked everyone I could find. Most hadn't even seen the black obelisks. Then some one mentioned hearing of progressive cities starting to put in charging stations for electric cars. An opportunity to create a system to promote people to actually make the shift away their oil-powered autos.
But would New York City actually be involved in this? Let's just put aside for a moment the obvious electrocution risk that the sign points out, but for all the progressive people in the city, does anything of this magnitude actually happen...at least without it becoming rather widespread throughout the world first...
All that said, I couldn't find anything to refute it. They are positioned by where cars park, they obviously have a current running to them. Considering the focus of politics and the high price of gas, the City of New York must have been pushed too far and finally started to do something about it.
But I needed confirmation. Someone had to know what was going on...
So I watched...and waited. Then this morning, finally the opportunity. Finally, I could put the question to rest. While walking to work this morning...I caught a NYDOT worker installing yet another little icon of progressive change on the sidewalk near Hudson and Leroy.
At last, my chance! I waited for the right moment so that he could not see me coming, I cornered and questioned him. I demanded he explain. To tell me what was the grand plan that this city was rolling out. To get him to affirm that the government was finally going to take some decent step towards getting away from fossil fuels!
"Please tell me, my friend. What are these things that you are installing?!??", I pleaded.
The man, weathered from his tireless work and taken back by my excitement of the future looked back at me, smiled and uttered just one word....
Muni-meter.
A muni-meter...not an agent of change, no new progressive idea that might actually help the environment. Just another way for the city to collect money faster...so that more cars can pay to park on the street and fewer people are needed to collect the money they drop off.
All that said - one of his most entertaining qualities is Schmeffster's love and belief of conspiracy theories.

Moving Beyond Sports Tourettes...
I think recently that I've exchanged my sports tourettes problem for political tourettes.
I did get worried when my security guard asked me if I heard any loud noises outside my door a few minutes ago while I was screaming while watching the Eagles. So - to avoid getting in trouble with security, the Eagles are playing so badly at the moment that I turned off the game and watched NKOTB instead.
That's sad.

This just in... the President says we're screwed...
Ah, but he's got a PLAN! I bet there is a sketch too... and if we're lucky a Powerpoint!
BTW - I'm one of the angry Americans he's talking about that you know, pays her mortgage on time, lives within her means, etc... so I'm really, truly excited about footing the bill for everyone that has a home full of big screen TVs and new furniture - financed by credit cards.
Just file for bankruptcy and poof - keep all the stuff! Speaking of... I know a good bankruptcy lawyer.

VOTE, oh please, VOTE
I know very few of you readers agree with my choice for President... but honestly - heading into another depression with the Republicans leading the charge? Hmmm... sounds familar? Oh, right... it's actually part of the musical Annie!
I mean, what's the drawback there? We'll all be broke, our dollar will be worth nothing (oh wait, IS worth nothing), but hey, if it creates a popular musical with a cute lil' orphan, then I'm glad that's the mark we're leaving on the world.
I don't have kids, so it's not my children that will suffer - but maybe they'll score a role when Annie 2010 - Thanks A Latte McCain (musical or movie) comes out in another 30-40 years.
Political rant over... this is why I shouldn't read Wonkette. Gets me all hopped up.

Hibernation.
What a week... here's a look at why if you emailed or called me this week, I've been unresponsive:
Sunday - Visits from parents and Mr. February; bedtime: midnight
Monday - Work until 6:30; massage 7:15 (ok, but still, I had to race home) bedtime: 11:30 pm
Tuesday - Work until 9 pm; bedtime: midnight
Wednesday - Begin work at 7 am - home at 6:30; Mr. February insists on coming over; bedtime 1 am
Thursday - 8 am doc appt; work until 6 pm; happy hour(s) until wee hours (burger at 1 am, not the best idea, btw); bedtime: 2 am
Yea - I'm spent today... just walked in the door... a good mix of fun and work, but still, Ms. Kittens is enjoying a night of vegetism. With emails and regular mail stacked in my inboxes and around my apartment, I'll be playing catch up all weekend.
Hope everyone is enjoying this cold snap - when did it become fall? how is it possible that September is pretty much over?
zzzzzzzzzz.

Go Baby Goooo!
Ok, so it took a bit longer, but happy to report that after three very long days, Lindsey Ellen Doyle has arrived!
Much love and congrats to my best gal, Dee, who clearly has the world's comfiest womb and my man, Baby Daddy Schmotty, on their newest addition!
Way to continue to multiply the M12 pack, y'all.
Special thanks to my girly network for keeping me posted all day via text message while I was stuck in a meeting. Oh, and btw, I extend congrats from the people who were attending the meeting... I was a bit worried and anxious, so every time I checked my Blackberry, half the people asked "Did she have the baby, yet?"
Lindsey already has a fan base in the South.
I'm off - I didn't give birth, but after 14 hours of future scenario planning, I may as well have...

Emergency entry…
Ok – I wouldn’t normally do this but – I need everyone’s thoughts quickly. My poor gal, Dee, has been in the hospital now for 48 hours waiting for her baby to come out. Despite my indirect offers of buying lots of fun shiny things, this baby won’t budge. I offered to call and yell “Go Baby Goooo” because it worked for me & Jimmie Johnson during my NASCAR race experience. Apparently, she has a desire to make a grand entrance or a flare for drama. I wish I had an idea where that came from. (wow – I can actually feel Dee hitting me through the Internet).
So, I ask everyone to think positive thoughts here and encourage Baby Doyle to make her entrance to the world, pronto!
Thanks!

The Universe Throws G A Bone!
Lucky for you all, the universe threw me a bone, so, to return the karma, you get a double post!
Of course, after an hour of searching, emailing and phone calling, I FOUND my glasses. Now, I'm going to have to apologize to the poor people at the restaurant I had lunch at, for basically spilling my life story to them as they frantically searched the restaurant. (What, you've never called anywhere and just happened to say something along the lines of 'Jesus dislikes me greatly'? Oh, right, me neither)
But I digress.
I had an almost perfect crapball weekend. The best part was when my family conveniently forgot that I was coming to visit and left me stranded at a Metro stop for 45 minutes in the blazing heat. Ah - lovely.
Second to that was seeing Mr. February, who was in town briefly and decided after some serious family issues last week, that he is thinking about moving to Florida.
Ugh.
So, I've decided that I needed to come up with a top 10 list to prove that Florida is a poo-rific place to live (exception to this - Key West, in which case, I would fit myself in his suitcase).
I mention this to Melissa, which in her prego state, she immediately confuses as me trying to be convinced to NOT move to Florida.
No, kids, I have no plans to move any further South then I already am, unless I had a very good and solid reason (following Mr. February is NOT a good enough reason). For criminey's sake, I already unwillingly say 'y'all'... any further and I'll become a Republican, fall in love with country music and go to church.
At any rate, Melissa's list is rather priceless and is worthy of me retyping for you all. So here it goes, why G shouldn't move to Florida.
10. It's hot.
9. It's humid.
8. HUGE bugs.
7. Every story about something weird originates in Florida. (I actually thought that was Texas, but I'll humor her here).
6. Hurricanes
5. 1,800 miles from NJ.
4. The real estate market is the worst in the country.
3. Every other radio station is country.
2. Jeb Bush.
And her number 1 - Where will you work? The Wal-Mart Super Center? Not much PR in Florida.
Hee hee hee.. yes, I knew most of the reasons... it's why I couldn't find a PR firm in Key West, when I did have a mental breakdown two years ago and decided I would become an island girl.
Ah, Melissa... I love ya. Thanks for making me smile.

Oh, Hello Senility.
I just realized that at some point today I lost my glasses and my glasses case. I've torn apart my place and emailed/called everywhere I've been today, but nothin' yet. I wouldn't consider this a big deal, but I can't take out my contact lenses which feel like razor sharp glass torturing my eyeballs because I'm blind as a bat without my glasses...
Wow. Getting old sucks. I think it's finally time for that Lasix appointment, considering if I have to replace my glasses, I'm almost halfway through the cost of one eye.
Ugh.

When to Say When
A bigger, better person knows how to let go. I'll get there someday, but today is not my day. I woke up to go to the gym and checked my nameless Blackberry. (Yes - in a series of unfortunate events worthy of a Lemony Snickets tale I am now the proud owner of a PINK B'berry).
You can imagine my surprise when I found not one but two emails from Baghdad Boy. He now has 2 out of 4 of my email accounts and copied me on a group email that he will be returning before the end of the year. Of course, no email is complete without yet another YouTube message from John McCain.
I forwarded to Melissa, but really - I didn't have the patience to get the email that told me not to respond... I DID wait until I got back from the gym and showered to craft my response... Ok, it's much nicer than the 'death by cliche' email because I still harbor guilt for sending something sorta mean to someone who's sorta risking his life on a daily basis - but still, it's pretty darn funny....
McCain and ‘W’ should be thankful for Republicans like you, who know how to actually use the internet and “the Google”. Glad to hear you’ll be home in time to see my Griswold family Christmas tree. Come visit and I’ll take you to the annual winter beer tasting at the Brickskellar… I’ll feel like my odds of getting shot by a current or future VP will be much less with a Republican by my side. And who knows, if we’re really lucky we could even grab a beer with the Palin daughter Baby Daddy. Stay well. =) -G
Of course, this is a totally empty offer... there is no way on the planet this guy would take me up on that. Right?
I'm just loving this learning how to be a bee-atch stuff! It's good fun!

Oy - do I have updates...
But no desire to write them out tonight... I've purposely spent a long time avoiding YouTube, because I was afraid of getting sucked in. Although - I've just found a new way to keep me very happy... watching puppies when I've had a bad day.
This one is so cute, I had to share. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was footage from when Lucky, the WonderDog was a mere pup.
Enjoy. I'll be back when my head is cleared.

Who Says You Can't Go Home?
Certainly not me! On my way back to Jersey for the last weekend of summer!! Yahoo! BBQs, beach and beer! :-)
Can't wait to see y'all!

-------------
I spent 20 years trying to get out of this place
I was looking for something I couldn't replace
I was running away from the only thing I've ever known
Like a blind dog without a bone
I was a gypsy lost in the twilight zone
I hijacked a rainbow and crashed into a pot of gold
I been there, done thatand I ain't lookin' back on the seeds I've sown,
Saving dimes, spending too much time on the telephone
Who says you can't go home
Who says you can't go home
There's only one place they call me one of their own
Just a hometown boy, born a rolling stone, who says you can't go home
Who says you can't go back, been all around the world and as a matter of fact
There's only one place left I want to go, who says you can't go home
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright, it's alright, its alright
I went as far as I could, I tried to find a new face
There isn't one of these lines that I would erase
I lived a million miles of memories on that road
With every step I take I know that I'm not alone
You take the home from the boy, but not the boy from his home
These are my streets, the only life I've ever known,
who says you can't go home
I been there, done thatand I ain't looking that
It's been a long long road
Feels like I never left, that's how the story goes
It doesn't matter where you are, it doesn't matter where you go
If it's a million miles aways or just a mile up the road
Take it in, take it with you when you go,
who says you can't go home
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright, it's alright, its alright

Why Cooking and Boys Don't Mix...
This could be my funniest story ever. I get home late from work and I decide I'm going to cook for once. I decide to make myself some lemon pepper chicken. (Side note - although I chose NOT to cook, doesn't mean I can't. I make some darn good, finger lickin' chicken.)
But I digress, so, I just get the chicken in the oven, when lo and behold I get a phone call from Mr. February. Yes - the same Mr. Feb that I said was finito.(Dating advisors: You're right, you're right, I know you're right).
Mr. February wants to stop by for a bit, just to hang out. I'm a sucker, so of course I say ok. Now - a few people have advised that the way to 'hook' Mr. February is took cook him a meal. I find this completely archaic and ridiculous, but nonetheless I consider the yummy smell of lemon pepper chicken coming from the oven a good way to test their theory.
In walks Mr. February. Ok - I'd be lying if I didn't say that he looked particularly cute tonight. Not the point, but had to share.
Before you start playing the "bow chicka wow wow" music, I have to disappoint and reveal that this was a very PG hang out.
Mr. February and I were chatting about the weekend, when I go to pull the chicken out of the oven. "Smells good", he says... and now I start to become a believer in this cooking theory.
That was until I went to pull the chicken out of the oven.
In a special G moment, as I'm pulling the tray out, I manage to knock the shelf down, causing the tray of chicken to fall onto the burning part of the oven. The whole oven basically collapsed like a bad domino game, resulting in bread crumbs and chicken covering the bottom of the oven.
Although lacking in grace, I at least have the common sense to realize that I'm about a minute away from a complete burning fire.
Mr. February comes in and sees the destruction.
All I could do was blame him for being here. I've never screwed up chicken in my whole life! Nor have I ever caused a near fatal oven fire.
I pull what parts of the chicken I can out of the hot oven and leave it on the counter. Nothing looks cuter than a gal sweating while pulling her head in and out of a hot stove.
When Mr. February finally stops laughing - there is a long dingin' noise.
"Oh - your chicken is done."
Moral of the story: Some people should not attempt to woo men by cooking. Stick to other things, like sitting and looking pretty.
Yep. That's just another night in my life. Seems like a sitcom, but sadly it's my reality show.

The American Dream
Let me start by saying I am well aware of the fact that I am way behind on blog entries. It's been over a month since San Fran, for one and I have another awesome entry that needs to be drafted regarding this past weekend.
But - this is what you're getting tonight - my American Dream.
Somewhere around 25, I had my quarter life crisis. For those of you who don't know what that is or never had yours, let me tell you about mine. I realized at around 25, that no matter how hard I tried - I was never going to make millions or be famous. Actually - not entirely correct - I realized that I didn't want to do what it takes to make millions or be famous. Fame is really not what it is cracked up to be. People want a part of you, and they want to be the next you... it's really sad to watch, actually. Compounded by this lesson was learning first hand the dark side of big business. I watched a business collapse before my very eyes. It broke my heart - because the person who created that business was truly passionate about it. But to go big, you have to bring in some people - who in turn, all want a piece of the pie. Then, people get greedy - they want the whole pie and start cutting corners. Then, boom - a simple dream gets crushed.
Well - having lived through that, I guess it wasn't so surprising when I wound up in my next big business buyout. But - I did really start thinking. I don't want this life. Could I work my tail off and become part of the machine? Of course... but who am I really pleasing? Who's pockets get bigger off my ass busting? The man. And to quote one of my favorite movies of all time, "Damn the man. Save the Empire".
Sure - that's the short and sweet of it, I guess. We all live for a dream.
I've been searching for mine for a very long time now. Every day, it grows a bit clearer.
We should all know by now that the first part of my dream involves my getting a dog of my own. I love Lucky, the WonderDog - and I would definitely adopt or steal her from my parents - but I'm pretty sure, despite my father's complaining that she can be a pain, that would make them cry.
Secondly - I want a washer and dryer in my home. Yep - pretty easy, but I've lived on my own for almost 10 years now and still have failed to accomplish this goal.
Third - I want to get paid for doing something I really and truly like, if not love. Don't get me wrong, I've been lucky enough to be truly passionate about most of my work, because at the end of the day I knew I was actually helping people. I'm not entirely sure that's the case where I am now - but I have to believe it's true, so I'll keep showing up every day. But, if I was to be true to myself - I'd either get paid to write (and keep y'all constantly amused) or I would be on the water. This desire grows more and more each day - and I'm really at a breaking point with trying to make this possible. I mean - you know you're at another turning point in your life, when you tell your father that you're ready to retire and his only reaction is to tell you to take a year off to see what happens - freelance to get by and live your life.
Finally - I need to live on or by water. It's something I don't want to live without. As I took the train back and forth to the Jersey Shore this weekend - I watched all the water I passed... watched the sun hit the water, people boating. Definitely something I want to be doing. Nothing calms me more, then being on the water. Truly puts me at peace.
Ultimately, the question is - if I've figured out all these things (and trust me, this didn't happen overnight, this is years of work), why am I doing none of them?
For that, I have no answer. All I can say, is change is imminent and needs to happen sooner rather than later.
And that kids - is my American Dream.

Two Important Lessons
First lesson is that I can't take sleeping pills... had to take a half day yesterday after a bad reaction to Advil PM. EEK. Don't do drugs, kids.
Second lesson is much more fun. I finally figured out the best way to kill someone with kindness. Death by cliche.
That's right, I decided to respond to Baghdad Boy after he sent me this generic pro-McCain email. I am a Democrat, but for the most part, I stick to my theory that all politicians are crooks, but started in office with the best of intentions to change the world for the better. And while I do have this horrible feeling that McCain will win this election, I still support the fact that we need a change here in DC.
But I digress... I promised I would post this email exchange, so without further delay:
Me: Interesting film… I wouldn't be worried about Obama – my guess is McCain is going to take it. Hope you're well?
BB: GOD HELP US IF HE DOESNT!!! I'm doing great......I'm in my "element". (Note: this means he's overseas somewhere getting shot at and stuff)
Me: Well I don't know about that, but you're the expert. And by Element I assume you don't mean those ugly cars. You take care, mister man. Stay safe, keep on keepin on and all that good stuff. Catch ya on the flipside.
Keep on keepin on? Did I really email someone that. Oh yea, I did. I am no longer f***in around, friends. Ultimately it's a shame that he's probably not able to appreciate my super sarcastic retort. But, still makes for a good book.
Off to work!

Ghosts of Dating Past
When it rains, my friends, it pours. So, I just got off a call with two of my chief dating advisors, both of who demanded a conference call intervention regarding Mr. February and his reappearances. And no, I still don't know what to do about him because according to my advisors, I need to have "the talk". Ok, maybe not THE talk, but A talk - something that I am physically incapable of doing.
If that's not enough - out of the clear blue I get not one, but TWO random emails from Ghosts of Dating Past. Baghdad Boy, yes, the same date that I never told the full story about but mentioned that it involved weaponry and The Washingtonian, the older guy who serenaded me on the way home to the City Guys theme song and had a thing for Saved by the Bell.
WTF people? Granted, I'm sure surplus is better than sparseness, but really is it that hard to just have ONE, somewhat normal man in my life - and not a trio of wackos?
Oy. It's bad enough I'm boytarded, but trying to navigate through these waters... it's exhausting.
Off to bed for some desperately needed sleep.

Did I Say Finito?
Ok, ok... I'm a liar. Mr. February was back this week... actually four days in a row, not here for four days... but anyway, he has since disappeared. Again. Yes, in the words of When Harry Met Sally - "you're right, you're right, I know you're right". It's not my fault he's super cute and strongly resembles Rivers Cuomo.

Say Hello To My New Friend...

That's right, I went to the darkside and bought a Crackberry. His name is Simon - as in "Simon says... you got mail!" After two trips to the Verizon Wireless store, an online chat and about seven calls to their customer service, my research came down to this.
G: "I'd like the SMT 5800 please."
Store clerk: "You don't want that phone."
G: "Seriously, I've been at this for months now, if I don't get a phone today your company will ban me from using its services."
Store clerk: "Ok, but that phone sucks."
G: "Ok - I'll take the Palm Centro."
Store clerk: "You don't want that either."
G: "Please, PLEASE, tell me what I do want, because you're the only person I've asked that will help me."
Store clerk: "You want a Blackberry."
G: "You sure?"
Store clerk: "Yes."
G: "Bless you for being the only person who provided clear direction."
And just like that Simon was born. I was tempted to call him Silverado, but that's my computer's name... and Barry just sounds too whiny... and this Blackberry's primary purpose isn't for work.
So there you have it. Simon the Crackberry. He's already given me a massive headache because I can't take my eyes off him.
Beware people - I have the ability to text, call, email or BLOG at anytime now.

Travel Log via Text Message - An Ode to Amtrak
July was nuts. In order to recount one of many tales of my trippy month, I give you all of my sent text messages from my train trip on July 2 to Philadelphia while en route to the Jersey Shore. Where my text messages leave off, there is audio somewhere out there that begins... if it makes it to my blog, we're all in for a treat. I'll throw in a teaser from the audio of the road trip - at one point I tell my sister that she drives worse than Helen Keller (and I challenge anyone that has ever driven with her to say otherwise).
WARNING: In order to maintain journalistic credibility, I did not edit the profanity from these messages. My texts are not suitable for children or those easily offended. I'd apologize for the crude language, but, it's not my fault, I'm from Jersey where vulgarity is classy vernacular.
July 4th Travel Text Messages
Train is on time.
My vag says she can suck it
Need a drink. Advil wore off.
Everyone is eating ice cream around me. ARgh!
U can’t even spell walmart. Lol.
Yes. And ice cream and fried food.
Oh great a screaming, child. It is my lucky fucking day.
Fine. Then we need to get food.
40 mins delay. Should be 6:40.
Loud mouth workaholic behind me taking turns w the screaming kid. I think we’re on time.
Ya. In b’more now.
I may be deaf bc this dumb bitch is louder than my ipod.
She’s like defying the principles of sound, she is SO loud.
I feel for the poor schmuck on the line. Who wants to talk work at 6pm on a holiday?
Tell doofus that there is no traffic on train tracks. Therefore, it is faster than a car. I am in Delaware.
Jesus dislikes me greatly. This screaming child may have fractured my ear drum.
The loud mouth just said she doesn’t understand how people lose their voice and I said loudly bc they don’t shut up. Time to leave train.
If we don’t survive the car ride, I liked you best. Love your car sick daughter.

Finito with February.
That's Mr. February... Almost ready to be done with boys in general. I think the nunnery may have a good deal... and hey, free wine. Can't argue with that.

I can't make this stuff up...
Ok, I try to not blog about work... but sometimes it's just too much. As part of the office 'culture', we started a Free Starbucks day. This has nothing to do with my former obsession with cinnamon dolce lattes. Truth be told, I'm no longer a big fan of the 'Bucks, but free coffee is free coffee. You would think that Starbucks is a global brand and that most people who work in PR would have a good sense of what it is, what they sell, etc. Today, I had this conversation with our poor new intern after overhearing a conversation from a very eccletic employee.
Me: So - I have to know... did he really ask you what Starbucks served?
Intern: Haha, yes, yes he did
Me: I'm trying so hard not to crack up right now. You're well established in PR... to actually get through that conversation (I'm sorry, but it's true. She's already graduated from the University of PR in my book)
Intern: I thought it was universally known as a coffee house, but I guess not (that's the best diplomatic, PC retort I've seen in awhile)
Me: Um, perhaps not to the community of people who live under rocks
Intern: Hahaha, I guess not...
Ok, yes, my intern is way more professional than me. That's good, because she has a lot longer to live in this business than I do. Before someone accuses me of being insensitive, the ecclectic employee, has lived in this major metropolitan area almost all his life and drinks coffee on a daily basis. No excuses.
Fact is funnier than fiction, friends.

What Do Birthday Gifts Really Say About You?
Just back from the Jersey weekend of my delayed birthday celebration... should I be concerned that my gifts from my family included: 1) a new cocktail shaker, 2) a blender 3) a pilsner glass and 4) a book entitled "50 Proven Ways to Be Happy"?
Oh - and four purses... which seems to be the most logical gifts. I guess that makes me an accessory-appropriate drunk with a sad side? Odd, that just may be accurate. :-)
Again - NO quacking slippers, cow/sailboat wall clocks or someone else's make-up by mistake, so I'm counting my blessings this year... plus I got my ice cream cake, which is a birthday staple. A summer birthday is just not complete without Carvel.
Now, it's off to work. Yay. (Not a hint of sarcasm)

The Quest to Replace Pink Phone
Hi all -
Finally through the birthday blues and on the quest to replace Pinky, the piece o' poo phone. This is WAY harder than I thought... I'm waiting to be banned from calling Verizon because I call daily asking questions, basically about every model of phone they carry... I've also enlisted several people including Mr. Ray, Former Roomie and Nicole... I still can't decide.
I *think* I've narrowed it down now to the LG enV2 or the Verizon SMT 5800... but I have no clue what the difference is despite receiving a whole bunch of consumer reporting links which were more confusing than the phones' descriptions and the Verizon customer service reps - both the ones by phone and oh, I also did an online chat with someone named Janiya...
All I want is a phone that doesn't die everytime I walk in my apartment with full keyboard, text messaging and email capabilities. This should NOT be that hard... somehow it turns out I need to downgrade in minutes and still pay $40 more a month to make this happen.
I hate technology... and to answer the "why no Blackberry" question... it looks way too hard to hold as a phone, and w/o a land line, I'm not spending 2 years with a phone that requires me to have extra massages due to neck pain... although the extra massages may be a good idea.
I need help, my peeps. Help!

GBAS Strikes Back...
Well, kids, GBAS struck again. I didn't think it was possible for my birthday to suck more than when I was stood up at sweet 16, but double the number, equaled double the suckage. And, really, that's all I'm going to say about it. I've been holed up all weekend in my apartment getting it over it through a mixture of therapeutic coach potato-ing and cleaning.
Thanks to those of you who remembered my birthday - really liked the messages and the cards. And sorry for those of you who called this weekend that I didn't talk to... just really wasn't in the mood to bring my Debbie Downer-ness to the masses.
The good news is that it's all up hill for the next 360-something days, but I'm also making a mental note to steer clear of 48 - because I don't think I can deal with triple suckage. And yes, grammar freaks, suckage is a word - so suck on that.
Down for the count, but not defeated, I remain your favorite underdog.

PS - I know I still owe details of the San Fran trip... its coming, I promise.

Coast to Coast...
And back... Hi all. Alot of fun stories to recount from my trip to Cali. It's 11 PM and so far today I've been in 4 cities - San Francisco, Cincinnati, Philadelphia and finally, DC. \I'm a mixture of tired and wired... going through a grand total of 527 emails and doing laundry.... Yawn.
Promise to have the unaltered pics and the tales to come.
A big cyber hug to my travel partner in crime... we hit the West and had a blast... thanks Nicole!

Quickie
Just a quick hi... leaving for San Fran on Friday... Jersey weekend was crazy fun - celebrated my aunt's 80th bday... gotta love a woman who can hang until the wee hours of the morning and a family who parties all night... I owe the Drinking Gods a big thanks for letting me combine margaritas, mojitos, beer and shots of sambuca and tequila... without getting me sick... exhausted, yes.... loss of voice for playing the videogame Rockstar by screaming lyrics into a microphone at 2 am... yep... but no stomach pumping after that dreadful mix. Oh - and I played pool with someone who learned from Minnesota Fats and a few other biggies... sah-weet.
Work has been nuts, I hop on a train to philly tomorrow night, then i'm off at 4 am to the philly airport for my 6 am flight to sam clam's disco.
oh - and boy update... mr. feb has been on me like white on rice, but i's got no time for games... date with Christmas Tree Namer went eh... I no likey first dates anymore... but, it was ok... he's wicked smart - way too smart for me... used to write economic policy for criminey's sake. i don't even know what that is.
at any rate... miss and love you all... i have a few pics from the party i will post when i get back and stories....
and of course, i better have at least one good tale from san fran.
smooch.

July is Just a State of Mind...
Ok - some updates and a look at why you haven't and won't hear much from me...
1. My blog was not accepted to the publishing place I submitted to... at least, I'm pretty sure. Ah well... someone will pick me up, don't y'all worry.
2. Boys. Ugh. Very little here... Mr. February is about as irregular as someone who ate too much cheese, but I do hear from him... Oh and I never heard from the date I never told the story about that involved weaponry... I have no clue anymore on boys, so I've dubbed this a boy-free month. Really. I know, it won't last, blah blah blah. **
3. GBAS. It's coming folks... Gina's Birthday Always Sucks. For a first in my life, I will spend the day working. No joke. What's better? The partners of the agency are coming that day. Hope they don't mind seeing a grumpster who is prepared to drink her dinner.
4. My homesickness. Was briefly cured after a lovely visit w/The Doyles and Ranieris... ah, nothing feels more like home than strolling into the Sea Isle pad and having a morning rum n coke. Also, while I made fun of his creativity... I have to say that watching Schmotty fly a kite using a fishing rod... priceless. And darn it all, I forgot my camera.
5. Stop using Amtrak. Damn train costs have jumped to ridiculous new highs. I have to take a train Saturday instead of tomorrow b/c the price drops $40. Oy.
So - why haven't I blogged... well, here is a look at the July G tour:
July 3 - 7: Ocean City, NJ
July 12 - 14: Mt. Laurel/Jersey Shore (VIP bday party - more details to follow)
July 17: Philadelphia
July 18: Depart Philly at 6 AM for San Fran
July 18 - 22: San Fran
July 22: Arrive Philly 5 PM; depart Philly 7 PM to DC
July 23-24: DC
July 25: Mt. Laurel for bday wknd (*tentative!)
Yea - I have my work cut out for me this month. Sorry if you're missing the bloggy, but I promise August will be slooooooow and entry plentiful.
Much love,
G
**Ok - so maybe not entirely boy-free... I did meet someone who not only named his iPod, but also provided me with a perfect tree name for this year's tree. That's sorta love at first sight.

5. Stop using Amtrak. Damn train costs have jumped to ridiculous new highs. I have to take a train Saturday instead of tomorrow b/c the price drops $40. Oy.

**Ok - so maybe not entirely boy-free... I did meet someone who not only named his iPod, but also provided me with a perfect tree name for this year's tree. That's sorta love at first sight.

Homesick
I went out last night with a co-worker and one of her friends from her hometown... It was so fun to listen to them talk about hometown stuff - the drunken nights, the crazy parties, the diner-type joints... Ah, I miss good ol' days in Mt. L... ok, I miss all of Jersey.

Future Ms. Kittens...
As if I'm not proud enough that my adorable niece learned to wear a boa at only 16 months, she's also a candidate to be on the cover for Parents magazine...

Other than that... all about my day from Hell...
You can say that Jesus loves everyone... here is today's case as to why I know I'm not included in that list.
Injure myself at gym, while trying to climb over rowing machine, which is broken and falls on G's calf, causing a softball size welt on my leg. Spend day with leg propped on computer to balance ice pack to reduce swelling.
Fail for second time to try to get lunch at favorite taco place. Last time was because of flooding that shut down the restaurant, today the line was over 30 minutes long. Considering my Thai place was shut down for weeks due to fire, I'm now the Grim Reaper of DC eateries.
Get screamed at by contractor because they are late with their contract renewals. *Leave office and exclaim I'm going to take a flying leap off the top of the building.
Freak out on Mr. February for not returning my texts, by sending nasty text messages. Realize, when I get the text that says "hmmm... you must be out of town, because I haven't heard from you"... that my crap-ass phone apparently no longer sends text messages to people. Although I called Mr. Feb, when he receives all the nasty text messages I did send, guessing this may be the last I hear from him.
Remember - Jesus loves you... not me, but definitely, you.
Smooch,
G
